Louis Riel Day


Louis Riel is remembered as a Métis leader and an advocate for equity and justice. November 16 commemorates the day Louis Riel was executed in 1885 and acknowledges the rights for Métis peoples that Riel fought for.

Riel was a politician, founder of confederation, and a founder of the province of Manitoba as well as a political leader of the Métis people in the prairies.
