Emancipation Day

Posted in Local news, and Unifor 1106

Emancipation Day in Canada for the year 2025 falls on Friday, August 1st. This yearly observance honours the Slavery Abolition Act, which was enacted in the British Empire in 1834, thereby terminating the enslavement of individuals of African descent and signifying a pivotal moment for Black Canadians. Emancipation Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the historical context of slavery and anti-Black racism, while also celebrating the strength and achievements of Black communities and pledging to work towards a more just future.
